Mackmyra Distillery, Mackmyra, Gästrikland, Sweden
The last expression presented by Angela D'Orazio at the Mackmyra party from May 9 to Scotch Whiskey Club of Quebec almost remained in the hands of Canadian customs. But thanks to a quick resolution of the misunderstanding, we closed the evening with a Mackmyra Single Cask Reserve Sample Swedish Oak Elegant.
Single cask, therefore from a single barrel, reserve sample, so a sample of the reserve. It gives you a bit of an idea of how good the thing is. Not to mention its ripening in Swedish oak barrels. I wonder if those who put them together need the instruction sheet.
As the late English composer Gustav Holst once said:
You can grab it by the eyes, but a text remains a dead letter if you don't hear it ...
This bottle comes from a special reserve matured in the Swedish mine of Bodås, more specifically from barrel # 31739, and has a deep golden brown color.
Nose:
Caramel, candied fruits, vanilla, oak, a little smoked spices.
Taste:
Salted caramel, cinnamon, lavender. The strength of the Cask Strength.
Finish:
Descends with warmth and gentleness. Lasts a long time. Hint of glue behind a postage stamp reminiscent of the endless Balcones Brimstone finale.
Balance:
Rare and exquisite. Pity. It's a safe bet that I will never get it again ...
